The Door Is Open

A girl called Emily was in a corridor. The weather was warm and the sun was shining gently through the windows. It was very bringt but somehow a bit misty at the same time, as if you had just opened your eyes after waking up.

Emily was watching around and trying to understand where she was. She hadn't been there before and the place was very strange for her.

Emily walked ahead towards a door. It looked attractive and fascinating. Emily heard some noise from behind the door. Something like birdsong, zephyr and that kind of things. Maybe there was a forest?

Emily went in front of the door. She tried carefully if it was locked. It wasn't. She went in and came into a huge room. It was circulat and the walls were full of doors. The doors looked all exactly similar.

Emily was very confused. She didn't know where she was and everything just always went even more weird. She just wanted to get away from there and go home.

She turned to leave and go back from the same door as she had come. But the door was closed. Suddenly she heard a voice that said: "You are in a Choosing Room. You have to make a choice between these doors. Behind every door there is a different room. The rooms are representing different ways of life and lifestyles. At first think what is important to you and what you want from life and the future. Then you can take a look at the things that the rooms are providing. And you can also watch into the rooms and check what like could look like in there. Then you must male the choice and decide how you want to live in the future."

Emily tried to understand. "What did that mean? Why do I have to choose? Why can't I just go home?" she thought.

After a moment Emily decided to take a look at the different doors and rooms. In one she would have a good job, in another a family, in one she would be alone, in one a single parent and so on. In every alternative there were its pros and cons. Emily didn't know what to do.

Emily sat down and cried. "How can I know what to choose? What will happen if I choose wrong? Can I come back and make the choice again? Can somebody help me, please!" she said.

Then Emily heard another voice and listened to it. "Dear Emily. I'm sure that you are a sensible and gentle young lady. I know that you can make the right decision. Listen to your heart and be open-minded and positive. You know what is right and what you want."

Emily stopped crying and got up. She dried her tears and walked to one of the doors. "I want to go home and carry on living as it stands now. I don't want to think about the future yet. I want to laugh and enjoy life. Everything comes when it's time to come. I want to get a family in many years or get a job. First I have to study and be young. I want to have a good time with my friends and family. The future can wait."

Emily opened the door and stepped in.

"Good morning" mom said. Emily woke up in her own bed. At home. Everything was like before. Emily smiled.

- Hehehe, I just found an old notebook when I was cleaning my room. I had written that story for school some years ago, now it sounds so silly when I read it. My English has become a bit better from that time too I hope. :D There were many other great stories in the notebook too, for example of friendship and everything. Makes me smile to remember those old good times. :)
