TV is opium for the masses

In this day and age most people watch too much TV or spend their time on the internet. It seems that some people are addicted to TV and they must watch it every day, otherwise they become angry. A TV-series can be the thing that determines the pass of the day. In that way TV can be like a drug.

But is it good that people are so into watching TV? Some programs are good and they discuss current things and happenings. People, and specially children, can learn from TV when they see and hear something they didn’t know before. Children’s programs are always quite instructive. Besides, Finns have learned English from TV because most programs and movies aren’t dubbed unlike in Germany where almost everything is dubbed instead of subtitles.

But, of course, everything has its pros and cons. Some cons of TV in my opinion are the programs that teach teens and children bad habits. For instance smoking and drinking alcohol; in most movies the characters do both and teens might think it seems cool and they want to try it as well. Another thing is that because of watching TV people have less time to do something else.

My relationship to TV isn’t very close and warm. I don’t even have time for TV. I only watch two or three movies a month, that’s all. I think I don’t need TV because if I want to watch something, I can watch from internet when I have time. If TV is opium for the masses, internet is my heroin and music my crack.
